New pitch is perfect for first fixture

Buxton are getting ready to finally kick off on the new artificial new pitch they've had laid by the EVO-STIK League's official pitch partners GreenFields on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Bucks are looking forward to hosting Hyde United at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium after their state-of-the-art 4G surface, pictured, passed a Northern Premier League and Football Association pitch inspection last week.

GreenFields, who also installed Hyde United's artificial turf surface before teaming up with the EVO-STIK League last season, started work at Silverlands in May within days of the club's 2017-18 campaign coming to a close.

Bucks officials are urging supporters to turn up in good time with a big crowd expected for the long-awaited fixture after three games away from home so this term and a 1-1 draw at Workington on Saturday.

A spokesman said: "The match will be the first on the new 4g pitch and club officials are expecting a larger than normal crowd for the game so please arrive slightly early if possible."

Buxton chairman David Hopkins explained why the club turned to GreenFields last season when the plans for a new surface were first revealed to fans.

"With such a well-positioned facility in the town it is so frustrating to us all at the club that for the vast majority of the time our main asset, the pitch, cannot be used as we have to work hard to protect the surface for the first team, which of course is not always easy in Buxton," said the Bucks chairman.

“With the advancement in quality of artificial pitches in recent years we now feel that the time is right to replace the current grass pitch at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium with an artificial 3G surface. The big win will be that Buxton will at last have an accessible stadium environment for all ages and abilities wishing to play football.”

Official pitch partners GreenFields agreed a new three year deal with the EVO-STIK League in June after honouring their inaugural Pitch of the Year winners at the 2017-18 end of season awards.

Appointed last summer as the Northern Premier League's official pitch partners for the historic 2017-18 50th anniversary campaign, the sports turf specialists are looking forward to working with clubs until at least the end of the 2020-21 season after crowning Trafford, Loughborough Dynamo and Whitby Town as the winners at Blackpool's Hilton Hotel before starting work at Buxton.
