New recruit at Long Eaton United

Long Eaton United have signed versatile defender/midfielder Riece Bertram from Basford United.

Bertram watched on from the stands during the Blues’ 2-1 victory over Pontefract Collieries last weekend, before putting pen to paper and joining up with the squad for training earlier this week.

The 31-year-old has vast experience playing in the Northern Premier League, having featured for teams including Basford, Ilkeston Town, Belper Town, Carlton Town and Matlock Town.

He adds depth and versatility to the Blues’ squad and will be available for selection against promotion-chasing Stockton Town this weekend.

Commenting on his arrival, manager Ian Deakin said: “When he became available, I got in touch with him as soon as I could because I knew he would add a physicality to our side.

“He is good in the air, a natural leader, a great character, and he is local to us, so he understands what the football club means to the community and the people of Long Eaton.

“He adds valuable experience and knows some of the lads already, so he will be able to integrate well with them.

“His leadership qualities will be extremely useful for the lads. He is a fighter with the kind of mentality that I want in my team.”

The club have also confirmed that Riley Phillips has linked up with the first team, having impressed for their U21s and academy team.
