New sponsor for Roms

Romulus update, by Andy Mitchell

ROMULUS boss Richard Evans admitted his side didn’t deserve anything out of their game with promotion chasing Ilkeston last week – but was still keen to highlight the positives from his team’s display.

After an even start the Roms conceded twice just before the break, and the visitors went into cruise control in the second half.

Evans said: “I thought the first half was fairly even but they were clinical and we weren’t – we had a couple of gilt-edged chances and I thought going in two down as a bit harsh on us.

“In the second half we just didn’t perform and we got what we deserved in the end.

We were disappointed with the number of crosses they got in and the amount of headers they had – maybe they could have had a couple more goals before the break but then so could we – it was an open game and a good game to watch.”

The Roms have lost their last three games and have won just once in eleven matches, but Evans is still confident his side can find form.

“It’s a tight league where everyone can beat everyone – we’ve had a lot of draws too so we are competing – two or three wins and we’re top ten, so we’re still confident.”

Romulus travel to struggling Rainworth Miners Welfare this weekend, where both sides will be looking to keep distance between themselves and the relegation places.

Rainworth are one place and four points clear of the drop zone while Romulus currently have an eight point cushion.

Evans added: “It will be a battle up at Rainworth – they’re strong defensively but we’ll be up for the battle and the defeat against Ilkeston won’t knock us off our stride.”

Chris Jay and Ben Richards-Everton will return from injury and Evans hopes to have an un-named new signing from a higher level available before the trip to Nottinghamshire.

The club also announced a new addition to their board along with a new kit sponsor this week.

Rio Asphalt will sponsor the kit for the remainder of the season while Andy Wilson, who works at Rio and is involved as Youth Secretary with Romulus, has joined the club’s executive committee.
