NPL Player of the Year Spencer commits to Farsley

EVO-STIK League Premier Division champions Farsley Celtic have moved to secure the future of the league’s Player of the Year, Jimmy Spencer.

Spencer, 27, will take on a dual role at the club in National League North, becoming the first ever club ambassador, which will include assisting the club in its new academy development and helping to support the local community as the focal point of activities at schools, charities and with fans.

Chairman Paul Barthorpe said: “I am very happy to have agreed this unique long-term deal with Jimmy. Everyone knows his qualities on the pitch. He was the Evo-Stik Premier League player of the year this season scoring 20 league goals and he puts in 110% in every match.

“We at the club also get the privilege of seeing another side to Jimmy, he is the massively popular in the changing rooms.

“His knowledge and passion of football is fantastic, he is a family orientated man, he has developed a love for this club and this season has proved to be a real asset both on and off the pitch.”

Spencer joined the club in the summer from Mansfield Town and previously played for Huddersfield, Notts County, Cambridge and Plymouth in the Football League.

Manager Adam Lakeland added: “I’m delighted that Jimmy has committed to the club following what has been an excellent season for him on a personal level. His contribution throughout the campaign has been phenomenal and his overall attitude and application since joining us last summer has been first class.

“It is important for any football club with ambition to retain their best players and Jimmy is certainly one of those. We are moving into a very competitive division next season, but one which I feel my existing group can hold their own in. I hope to announce the retention of the whole squad in the coming weeks.”
