NPL preview | Saturday 9 December

By James Gordon

There are some eye-catching fixtures to look out for as the Northern Premier League returns for another almost-full calendar this weekend.

Warrington Rylands will have the chance to close the gap to league leaders Radcliffe to six points when they host Stafford Rangers.

It won't be an easy test, however, as Rangers will go in search of back-to-back league wins under new boss Dave Cooke, who was appointed to replace Matty Hill at the end of November.

Worksop Town start the day 3rd, and they visit a Marske United side that managed to end a three-game losing run in the league with victory over Gainsborough Trinity in their previous outing.

With 4th-placed Macclesfield not in action, Guiseley could climb into the play-off places with victory away at Whitby Town.

Marine are another with their sights set on the top five. They travel to FC United of Manchester, who have been boosted by the recent arrival of midfielder Aaron Bennett and left-back Mikey Davies.

Other notable fixtures include Hyde United hosting last season's beaten play-off finalists Bamber Bridge, and Ashton United visiting a Basford United side looking for their first win in six league games.

Macclesfield and Radcliffe aren't in league action due to their involvement in the third round of the FA Trophy. That means Lancaster City and Matlock Town are also without a fixture.

All fixtures will take place on Saturday 9 December at 3pm, unless stated otherwise.
