N/West Preview: Top of the table clash in weekend's action

By James Gordon

A full round of action returns to the N/West Division following the FA Trophy, with ten fixtures across the league.

Table toppers Workington AFC host Tadcaster Albion, who recently parted ways with manager Curtis Woodhouse as the former footballer took up the role at Gainsborough Trinity in the Premier Division after a positive start at The Brewers.

The visitors have three games in hand over Workington and a victory could see the gap close to just one point.

Danny Grainger’s side sit at the top with 24 points and recently defeated Windscale 3-2 in the Cumberland Senior Cup thanks to goals from Nathan Waterson, Millenic Alli and Nathan Waterson.

In second-place, Clitheroe host Droylsden at Shawbridge stadium with just three points separating the Lancashire-side to top place Workington.

Clitheroe are unbeaten in the league in their last four fixtures, most recently a 2-1 victory over Ramsbottom United.

Pickering Town sit at the bottom of the table, and recently drew 0-0 with Prescot Cables in the FA Trophy (replay Tuesday November 5), with new signing Elliot Holmes making his debut for Denny Ingram’s side after recently joining from Hull City on loan. They host City of Liverpool, who were also affected by the bad weather over the weekend after their fixture with Dunston was postponed.

Just above them, Dunston search for their second win of the league season as they host 15th-placed Widnes, with just four points separating the sides. The visitors recently strengthened their squad with the signing of former Liverpool striker Adam Morgan from Mossley, scoring five goals in 10 league appearances this season.

Fourth-placed Marine travel to the H.W. Riverside Stadium in high spirits following their 3-1 victory over Marske to face Ramsbottom United, whilst Pontefract Collieries host Trafford.

Prescot Cables, who sit fifth in the table with 19-points alongside Pontefract Collieries and Marine above them, travel to Mossley who recently defeated Cleethorpes Town 4-2 in the FA Trophy and lost 1-0 to City of Liverpool.

Marske United lost their unbeaten record to Marine after a 3-1 scoreline in the last round of the N/West division, and prepare to bounce back against Runcorn who defeated The Colls 5-3 in the FA Trophy to progress to the next round.

Elsewhere, 13th-placed Brighouse Town host Colne three places below, and Ossett United face Kendal Town.
