Palmer calls time on his reign

Charlie Palmer has ended his reign as manager of EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Belper Town.

Appointed in October 2015 as the successor to Jimmy Albans, the former Watford, Derby County, Hull City, Notts County and Walsall defender, pictured, stood down at the Marston’s Stadium after guiding the Nailers to a 10th-placed finish in his first full season at the helm.

In a statement on Friday announcing his departure, the former Long Eaton United boss and assistant manager at Mickleover Sports told supporters it had been a "pleasure" to manage the EVO-STIK NPL First Division South club.

The 53-year-old, who also coached for Dean Thomas at Hinckley United after calling time on his playing career, said: “It has been a pleasure to work at Belper and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me during my time at the club.

“I hope that everyone can recognise that I have left in the club in a healthier position than when I joined and I hope they continue to improve in the future.”

Nailers chairman Alan Benfield said: “We certainly found a great coach in Charlie and he will be sadly missed at Belper. Belper Town Football Club is sad to see Charlie leave and would like to wish him every success in the future, in and out of football."

The Nailers are planning to make a swift appointment to give their new manager the best possible chance to prepare for the 2017-18 campaign with officials planning to draw up a short-list of candidates to interview over the course of next week.

To be considered, potential candidates should contact Benfield as soon as possible to register their interest via email at: a.benfield408@btinternet.com.
