Parents touched by tribute to son

EVO-STIK League Prescot Cables are mourning the loss of one of their loyalest fans this weekend after paying an emotional tribute to him before booking their place in the final of the Liverpool Senior Cup.

Pictured with former Cables star Valter Fernandes, Andy Maund passed away suddenly this week aged 45 after suffering a suspected heart attack before the cup holders booked their berth in the final against Northern Premier League rivals Marine at the home of the Mariners on Thursday 27 April.

Saddened fans and officials celebrated his life with a minute's applause before their 4-0 semi-final victory at Litherland Remyca United on Thursday night, the tribute in front of his mourning parents coming almost a year after their son saw the EVO-STIK League North club lift the trophy for the first time in their history with a 2-0 win over National League Southport.

In a statement on Friday, officials published details for their late supporter's funeral service at nearby St Gabriels Church on Wednesday 2 May. His family have invited everyone connected with Cables to attend the lunchtime service before gathering for a celebration of his life in the function room at Valerie Park afterwards.

Cables spokesman Jamie Weston said: "Andy was sadly only 45 so passed a young man. We had a minute's applause to celebrate his life and dedicated the semi-final to honour the memory of a top fella taken far too soon.

"His parents also attended and were overwhelmed by the kind words everyone had for Andy. His family have said that all are welcome to the church and crematorium services as well as back at the function room."
