Before stepping side, Shelton is due to talk to chairman Mick Garton in the coming days on taking another role next season and is set to be feted next week by the official supporters club who are a throwing party for him on Friday 3 March to mark his 40 years of service and 60th birthday.
A club spokesman said: "There will be a buffet, a disco and as an incentive to get there early a limited free bar and all former coaches, officials, players and everyone involved either with the club now or in the past is invited to Paul's special evening."
The EVO-STIK NPL First Division South club - who booked their berth in the final of the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup for the fourth time in seven years on Wednesday night with a 2-0 semi-final win over Teversal - are now looking to appoint a successor to Shelton, pictured, and inviting applications for the key post at the Bill Stokeld Stadium.
In a statement paying tribute to their outgoing secretary, Millers chairman Mick Garton said: "Paul is and will remain a key figure at Carlton Town. He is steeped in the club's history, 40 years is a long time and his contribution has been immense.
"I look forward to meeting with him shortly to discuss the future but it is only right and proper that we fire the opening gambits its in terms of starting to find someone to take up the mantle."
