Premier Division preview: Tough test for Trinity as Radcliffe chase top spot

By James Gordon

With FA Trophy fixtures being played this weekend, only 14 teams feature in Northern Premier League action on Saturday afternoon.

Gainsborough Trinity have another chance to move top of the pile as they visit FC United of Manchester.

Both sides have played an equal amount of matches this season, with the Lions sitting four points clear of FC United following their recent points deduction.

Anything less than maximum points for Trinity could allow rivals Radcliffe to snap up top spot as they welcome Nantwich Town to Stainton Park.

The Dabbers have restored their form of late, winning three straight matches in all competitions before snatching a last-gasp 1-1 draw against Gainsborough in midweek.

Elsewhere, South Shields will look to build momentum with a win at the 1st Cloud Arena on Saturday.

They face a Stafford Rangers side that currently sits one point behind Shields, albeit they have played four more matches than Saturday’s hosts.

Elsewhere, Bamber Bridge are on the road again as they travel to Hurst Cross for their match against Ashton United.

Back-to-back wins for Brig would see them move to within two points of current league leaders Hyde United.

Gorsey Lane will play host to a mid-table clash between Warrington Rylands and Morpeth Town.

The Highwaymen have a game in hand on Rylands, with both teams currently locked on 24 points having struggled to find consistency in recent weeks.

Towards the bottom of the table, Belper Town welcome Whitby Town to the Raygar Stadium.

The Seasiders will look to take advantage of the Nailers’ poor form, and a win for Nathan Haslam’s side could see them climb out of the relegation places.

And finally, Atherton Collieries welcome Stalybridge Celtic to the Skuna Stadium.

The Celts will go in search of their third consecutive league win away from home following their convincing 3-0 victory over Stafford last weekend.
