Premier Division round-up: Dolly Blues defeat top of the table Warrington

By James Gordon

Lancaster City defeated Warrington Town 2-1 at the Giant Axe in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Heading into the fixture, Mark Fell’s side had recorded one win and three draws in the Premier Division, including a mid-week 1-1 result with FC United of Manchester.

Goals from David Norris and Jacob Holland-Wilkinson saw the side claim the three points, despite a goal from Jordan Buckley on the 77th minute threatening a comeback.

Fell said: “We were better than them. I thought first half was fairly close, we spoke about it being a marginal game, similar to Tuesday night really. We came in at half-time and said listen this could go either way, there’s been limited chance.

“First 15 minutes we were very good. We put a lot of balls in the box, Blinks (Matthew Blinkhorn) hit the bar, and Sam’s (Ashton) not made a save first half because even when they had a lot of the ball, we were so organised, so well structured. We let them have it when we wanted to let them have it I felt, and that’s a testament to the work we’ve done.

He continued: “We said at half-time it’s a tight game, does a little bit of quality win it and two bits of quality have won it.”

Lancaster now sit 11th in the league table, while Paul Carden’s side remain on top.

In second place on goals difference, a goal from Callum Chettle was enough for Basford United to claim the victory away to Stalybridge Celtic.

In third place, Witton Albion claimed a 2-1 win over Atherton Collieries. Two goals inside the first 15 minutes from William Jones and James Foley was a big enough lead to claim the three league points, despite a second-half goal from Dylan Glass.

A brace from Jacob Hazel for Whitby Town saw his side claim a 2-1 triumph over Morpeth Town, while Buxton defeated Bamber Bridge 2-1.

A double from Andrew Owens either side of half-time saw Radcliffe claim their third win of the season against Gainsborough Trinity. Both sides finished the game with 10-men, with Raheem Hanley and Tyler Hamilton saw red.

Elsewhere, goals from Stuart Beavon, Declan Bacon and Pablo Mills saw Mickleover defeat Grantham Town 3-0.
