Premier Division round-up: Lancaster City claim first win of season

By James Gordon

Lancaster City claimed their first win of the season over the weekend with a 4-2 victory away to Grantham Town.

Thomas Kilifin opened the scoring, and further goals from Samuel Bailey, Charlie Bailey and David Norris saw Mark Fell’s side jump to 15th spot in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division table.

Fell said: “We were brilliant. It doesn’t matter what a manager tells you, you have concerns about things and worry about things and I feel a bit guilty because I shouldn’t have worried about those players.

“|f there’s a blueprint for an away performance where you maybe don’t have much of the ball for the first five or ten minutes but all of a sudden there’s just one team in it and we scored three fantastic goals. A different class, brilliant goals.

He continued: "That’s the best I’ve seen (Thomas) Kilifin in a Lancaster shirt. He backed in, pinned and rolled. His goal at the back post was brilliant like we wanted him to do. He epitomises the heart and soul of the club.”

FC United of Manchester also claimed their first win of the season and remain unbeaten in the Premier Division, with a 2-1 victory over Stafford Rangers. Goals from Daniel Cockerline and Michael Fowler.

At the top of the table, Paul Carden’s Warrington Town claimed a 2-1 victory over Radcliffe at Cantilever Park, with goals from Bohan Dixon from the penalty spot, and a spectacular chip from Luke Duffy.

Witton Albion now sit in second spot following their 3-1 victory away to Gainsborough Trinity. Goals from Isaac Baldwin, Thomas Owens and James Hooper.

Mickleover claimed a 3-0 victory over Ashton United, with goals from James Butler, Stuart Beavon and Jake Bennett.

Stalybridge Celtic’s latest recruit Will Goodwin scored his first goal for the club while on loan from National League North side Chester as his side drew 1-1 with Atherton Collieries. Marcus Cusani opening the scoring on the sixth minute for the home side.

Basford United sit fifth in the Premier Division table following a 2-1 victory over Bamber Bridge, with goals from Matthew Thornhill and Revarnelle James in the opening 15 minutes enough to claim the three points, despite Danny Forbes’ goal threatening a comeback.

Scarborough Athletic and Nantwich Town both came away with a league point following a 1-1 result, while Matlock Town recorded their third win of the season thanks to a goal from Alex Byrne.
