Premier Division round-up: Mickleover end Warrington’s unbeaten start

By James Gordon

Warrington Town’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end as they fell to a 3-2 defeat away to Mickleover.

The Yellows led through Josh Amis after dominating the opening exchanges, but Phillip Watt equalised before both Scott Brown and Mason Warren were shown a red by the official.

It was Mickleover who responded the better of the two sides, and goals from Declan Bacon and Stuart Beavon saw the Don Amott Arena outfit claim their second win of the season.

Paul Carden’s men remain at the top of the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division table.

In second place three points behind the top spot, Witton Albion claimed a 1-0 victory over Scarborough Athletic thanks to a second-half goal from Scott Bakkor.

“I got a couple of braces last season and one the other week at Ashton, but this is my first hat-trick at South Shields so it’s good.”

Matlock Town now sit fifth in the league table following their impressive 4-1 victory Ashton United.

Declan Walker opened the scoring on the fourth minute through a penalty, and Ben Hardcastle scored the equaliser on the 27th minute.
