Premier Division round-up: Yellows take top spot with two wins from two

By James Gordon

Warrington Town have taken the top spot in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division table following their 3-0 victory over Gainsborough Trinity.

Bohan Dixon bagged a brace, opening the scoring on the 16th minute before striker Josh Amis scored the club’s second before half-time.

And the three-points were secured when Amis took in Jack Dunn’s long throw, went down under the challenge of James Williamson, and Dixon sent the ‘keeper the wrong way from the spot.

They remain the only team to have won the first two games of the season.

In second place, Nantwich Town also claimed an impressive 3-0 victory over Stalybridge Celtic, with goals from Joel Stair, Connor Heath and Prince Haywood.

South Shields were held to a 0-0 result with Hyde United, while 10-man FC United of Manchester and Scarborough Athletic also drew 0-0. Luke Griffiths was shown a red for FC United in the second half.

Scott Bakkor scored the Premier Division’s first hat-trick of the season, while teammate William Jones added a fourth as Witton Albion claimed a 4-1 victory over Radcliffe.

Goals from Liam Noble and Andrew Johnson either side of the half helped Morpeth Town to a 2-1 victory over Mickleover, despite the best effort from Stuart Beavon and his goal on the 47th minute.

Basford United bounced back from their league opening loss to Warrington with a 2-1 win over Lancaster City, with goals from Stefan Galinski and Alex Howes.

An 85th-minute penalty from Kyle Sambor helped Atherton Collieries to a 2-1 victory over Grantham Town, with Gareth Peet also scoring for the Colls.

Buxton and Whitby Town shared the points with a 2-2 draw, with goals from Reece King and Diego De Girolamo and Liam Cooke and Jacob Hazel respectively.
