Premier round-up: Unbeaten runs come to an end

By James Gordon

The unbeaten records of Scarborough Athletic and FC United of Manchester came to an end following their defeats to Warrington Town and Bamber Bridge respectively in the BetVictor Northern Premier Division.

FC United fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Bamber Bridge, which ended their unbeaten run of 14 in the league.

Goals from Alistair Waddecar, Sheldon Green and Nathan Shaw gave the hosts an impressive win at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium over former manager Neil Reynolds.

Wigan loanee and goalkeeper Bobby Jones stole the show for the Yellows at Cantilever Park on his debut, while goals from Josh Amis and Jack Mackreth ended Scarborough’s undefeated run with a 2-0 scoreline.

Paul Carden’s side are one point outside of the play-offs.

“It feels like its been a long time since we had a big result like that,” Carden told the Warrington Guardian.

“At times, we were hanging on. The wind picked up and they were bombing balls into the box.

“We’re stretched as a squad – we had three strikers and a winger on the bench today.

“Everyone’s had to do a job – some have had to do a job and a half – and that gets you places.”

Table toppers South Shields were held to a 1-1 draw with Buxton, cutting the lead at the top to just two.

Warren Clarke opened the scoring inside six minutes, before Nathan Lowe equalised in the 30th and that was enough for a share of the spoils.

In second place, Basford United defeated Atherton Collieries 2-1 at home. The visitors took the lead on the half hour mark with a goal from Cain Noble, before Matthew Thornhill equalised just before half-time.

It looked like it was heading for a draw, before Nathan Watson claimed the three-points in the 86th minute.

Elsewhere in the play-offs, Lancaster City were held to a 0-0 draw with Nantwich Town at the Giant Axe.

Goals from Alexander White and Bradley Fewster saw Whitby Town defeat Matlock Town 2-0, while Morpeth also claimed the three-points against Stafford Rangers thanks to goals from Liam Henderson and Christopher Reid.
