Purcicoe the latest to get Grantham deal

Defender pens deal on 20th birthday.

Sam Purcicoe has become the latest Gingerbreads to sign a contract at the Meres.

Following his joint managers Jimmy Albans and Wayne Hallcro and players Lee Potts, Phil Watt and Paul Grimes, Purcicoe received a 20th birthday present from the club last week.

“Since Sam has been at the club, he has been a breath of fresh air here.” Said Albans. “He hasn’t missed a single game through injury and has matured as a footballer.”

Purcicoe joined from Mansfield in January 2010, making his debut at home to Stamford and getting his first goal for the club later in the season against Rushall Olympic. Sam has since gone on to play 85 times for Grantham and hit the net on 6 occasions.

“Sam came to us as a centre half. “ Albans recalled. “But he has moulded into a very good right wingback. He has an abundance of energy and gets some spectacular goals for us.”

Initially on loan from Mansfield, when the Stags decided not to renew his contract, Purcicoe had no hesitation about joining the Gingerbreads permanently. Albans and Hallcro similarly did not have to think too hard about signing him.

“For a young lad, Sam coped very well with Mansfield deciding not to keep him.” Albans said. “He gets on with his job and always gives 100%. He shows no fear on the pitch and we have wanted to get him on contract for some time now. The time is now right for the club and player to do that. Sam deserves it, he is a player who could definitely play at a higher level and he wants to learn all the time.”
