Recovery comes first for Lodge

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Newcastle Town have started the hunt to find a successor to manager Ivan Lodge after he announced he was standing down to concentrate on recovering from his recent stroke.

The 53-year-old, who suffered a stroke back on Saturday 5 March on the way home from a short break, is on the mend and returned to the Aspire Stadium for the first time a few weeks ago to see caretaker managers Dave Dale and Callum Carey guide the club to a 1-1 draw with Basford United in EVO-STIK NPL First Division South.

In a statement announcing the news, Newcastle Town secretary Ray Tatton said the club regretted but understood the decision of their manager, pictured, to put his health first.

Tatton said: "Ivan has made the decision in order to concentrate on returning to full health after his recent illness. The club would like to place on record their gratitude to Ivan for helping to establish and consolidate the club in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League. He will remain a vital part of the club in the future.

"With this being said, the football club would like to invite applicants for the position of fist team manager/head coach. The role will suit someone with experience of this level of football, an ability to work within a budget and a desire to work at a club where youth development will remain important."

"The club would also place on record our thanks for the excellent job done by Dave Dale and Callum Carey who stepped up from the reserve team to take over during a very difficult period for the club."

Potential candidates are asked to initially express their interest verbally to Newcastle Town general manager Geoff Eccleston by contacting him at the club on 01782 662350. Alternatively, email: gecc25@btinternet.com. A covering letter outlining their suitability for the role and CV will be required at a later stage.
