Rigby returns to City of Liverpool

By James Gordon

City of Liverpool have announced the re-signing of Stephen Rigby for the Pitching In Northern Premier League 2021/22 season.

The midfielder initially joined the club in February 2020 from Ashton United.

Rigby has made 14 appearances for the club so far and opened his Purps account with the crucial third goal in Michael Ellison’s first game at Brighouse Town, before also notching in the home rout of Pontefract Collieries.

Manager Ellison said: “Ste Rigby is a player we know well. Even though I’d not worked with him before it feels like he’s been around for ages.

“He’s technically excellent and as fit as they come, he’s got a great attitude and can play anywhere. I am delighted we’ve got him for another year."

Rigby added: “I’m made up to have re-signed for the Purps.

“I knew I wanted to stay as soon as I spoke with Ello. I’ve really enjoyed my time here, and can’t wait to get going again.

“Hopefully we can start the season off well and push towards the top of the table.”
