Roms Hope To Shake Injury Woes

Romulus update

Romulus will look to shake off the injury woes and secure their first league victory over the Bank Holiday weekend, as they host Belper Town at Coles Lane on Saturday (KO 3pm) before the 'Sutton derby' on Monday.

But boss Richard Evans has suffered disruptions to his plans ahead of the two games, with most of the first team squad missing Thursday's training session through injury.

Amongst the walking wounded is Wayne Dyer, who is still suffering with a hamstring strain picked up on the opening day, with Richard Evans Jnr (hamstring) and Peter Faulds (groin) joining him on the treatment table.

A triple injury blow in the first half of the Roms midweek defeat against Carlton then made the situation worse with Richard Robinson (thigh), Dean Baker (groin) and Nathan Blissett (calf) having to be withdrawn.

Evans Jnr and Faulds entered the fray while still carrying knocks, and Romulus boss Richard Evans admitted it wasn't ideal.

"With hindsight, we shouldn't have played Pete and Rich, but we had little choice.

"The opportunity was there to put some points on the board and we wanted to put some experience out there.

"They weren't fully fit and we'll have to assess whether they have made anything worse, though initial signs are that they haven't.

"One small blessing is that they are all short term injuries, its just a shame they have all come at once.

"It has been disruptive- an absolute nightmare- but we'll soldier on.

"We have a good squad this year and this will be the chance for those yet to get in the side to prove themselves."

In the end, Romulus lost 3-1 to Carlton after taking a second minute lead- it was the third straight match where they had their noses in front, but ended up yielding just one point from those games, including last Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Market Drayton Town.

The Roms had lead until the 82nd minute in Shropshire, which Evans said little about, other than to label it "disappointing".

Romulus' opponents on Saturday, Belper Town, travel down from Derbyshire with five points from their opening four games, while Monday's opponents Sutton Coldfield have been in fine form with three straight victories going into this weekend.

The Royals will be the 'home' side for Monday's fixture, which kicks-off at 3pm.
