Round-up: Warrington go top as others frozen off

The Yellows hit four past Gainsborough Trinity in an impressive 4-1 victory away from home.

Tony Gray opened the scoring on 19 minutes, and two minutes later crossed one in for Jack Dunn to head home.

Josh Amis scored his sixth goal in five games for 3-0 four minutes in to the second half, before Dylan Vassallo rounded the ‘keeper for a fourth.


Damien Reeves scored a consolation for Gainsborough, who spent the last 15 minutes with 10 men after left-back Ben Gordon was given a straight red for raising his hands to Mitch Duggan.

The three goal win was enough to lift Warrington above South Shields on goal difference.

The only other two games in the Premier Division involved teams towards the bottom of the table, as Workington recorded an invaluable victory, winning 2-0 at Grantham Town

Niall Cowperthwaite and Matthew Douglas scored the goals for the Reds to move them within seven points of safety, sucking the Gingerbreads in to the relegation battle.

Grantham confirmed the exit of manager Richard Thomas following the game.

A last minute Tom Thorley strike rescued a point for Stafford Rangers at home to Lancaster City, who thought they would be pulling away from the bottom three thanks to Richard Wilson’s first half penalty.

There were just two games that survived the weather in the West Division, and in one of those Trafford sealed a win to move in to the play-off places.

Dec Rydings’ first half goal was enough to secure the win at Widnes, who were playing at their home ground the Halton Stadium for the first time this season.

Droylsden recorded a second successive win as they won 2-1 away at Colwyn Bay.

Reece Webb-Foster and Astley Mulholland exchanged first half goals, before Sefton Gonzales had the telling intervention 14 minutes from time.

Two games survived in the East Division too, as Cleethorpes Town suffered a surprise home defeat to Markse United, Craig Gott scoring the only goal.

Frickley left it late to create space between themselves and the bottom group in the league, Philip Watt scoring in injury time as they won 1-0 at Spalding United.
