Russell heads new Tadcaster trio

Tadcaster Albion have signed experienced former Gainsborough Trinity captain Simon Russell.

Russell, 35, made more than 200 appearances for the Holy Blues and has also played for Hull, York, Cambridge United, Lincoln City, Alfreton Town and North Ferriby.

Manager Paul Quinn said: “Simon’s experience speaks for itself in the game and we feel he will be an outstanding addition to Tadcaster Albion. A local lad who has bought in to what we are doing at the club, we are really looking forward to working with him.”

Joining Russell in the midfield is Marco Basic, who arrives from Ossett United.

Basic, 20, was spotted playing Sunday League football by Bradford City and went on to join Halifax Town.

Quinn added: “For me, Marco is a very exciting young player – I’ve worked with him before and know what he is capable of achieving. We spoke at length about Tadcaster Albion and the club’s ambitions - we are delighted he has joined us.”

The club’s third signing is Nigerian winger Ify Ofoegbu.

Ofoegbu made his professional debut with Chesterfield, but sat out most of last season through injury.

He said: “I am excited to be joining such a well-known club . I know several players who have been there and gone onto greater things. They have ambition and I want to be part of the team that achieves success.”
