Saturday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

With Northwich Victoria and Warrington Town both inactive on Saturday, third placed Spennymoor Town won 4-0 at Brighouse Town to move to within 14 points of second spot, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Moors won comprehensively 4-0 at another of the sides looking to mount a play-off challenge, Brighouse Town.

Mark Anderson scored the only goal of the opening half after 32 minutes. Five minutes after the break Nathan Fisher doubled Moors` lead and five minutes after that an own goal from Jamie Pollard stretched the visitors` lead to 3-0. James Risborough added a fourth with five minutes remaining.

Ossett Albion remain level on points with Spennymoor after a 1-0 Dimple Wells win over Scarborough Athletic.

Pre-season, pundits would have had these teams in opposite positions, but Danny South`s 66th minute effort ensured Albion are twenty-eight points better off than their more illustrious Yorkshire rivals.

Lancaster City could have moved into the top five with a win at the Giant Axe against Trafford but Chris Palmer`s 32nd minute goal proved enough to win it for the Greater Manchester side.

Burscough were in a similar position to the Dolly Blues where three points could have taken them into the play-off spots.

However, the Linnets suffered a surprise 2-1 home defeat to third-bottom Ossett Town. Paul Williams gave the hosts a 15th minute lead that Danny Frost cancelled out eight minutes before the break. And Alex Peterson`s 63rd minute goal proved enough to win it for the visitors.

And with second-bottom Harrogate Railway losing 2-1 at Station View to Bamber Bridge, the gap between them at Ossett Town is now five points.

Dan Thirkell had Rail in front after 54 minutes, only for Matty Kay to level on 79 minutes and then Jamie Milligan won it from the spot in injury-time.
