Saturday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

It`s as you were in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table after the top five all won on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Warrington Town still lead the way by thirteen points from Northwich Victoria, who have four games in hand to set up an exciting finale.

The Wire were made to battle for a 2-1 Cantilever Park win over third-bottom Ossett Town, whose Danny Frost had them in front after 12 minutes. Ged Kinsella equalised on the half-hour mark and then Ciaran Kilheeney scored what proved to be the winner just two minutes later.

Northwich were more comprehensive 5-0 winners at Parkside against Kendal Town.

Richard Bennett bagged a brace in the opening 11 minutes and by the half-hour mark it was virtually all over after Jamie Clarke and Michael Clarke added two more. Ten minutes before the break Bennett completed his hat-trick but the Vics took their foot off the gas in the second half and settled for what they had.

Spennymoor Town, Glossop North End and Burscough also recorded victories on Saturday.

The Moors won 3-0 at the Brewery Field against Prescot Cables, courtesy of goals from Mark Anderson after 17 minutes, Nathan Fisher seven minutes after the break and then Liam Henderson just past the hour-mark.

Glossop saw off Trafford 2-1 at home, thanks to Jason Carey after 19 minutes and then Mark Reed 11 minutes from the end after Liam Davies had levelled on 58 minutes.

Burscough won 2-0 at Wincham Park against Witton Albion, with Will Jones bagging both in the 72nd and 82nd minutes.

Sixth-placed Ossett Albion also remain in play-off contention, as do Clitheroe, Farsley Celtic and Lancaster City, who also all won.

Albion virtually ended Mossley AFC`s chances with a best-of-seven win at Dimple Wells.

Connor Brunt gave the home side a fifth minute lead that the Lilywhites turned round to lead 3-1 with goals from Tom Pratt after 12 minutes, Dave Short three minutes later and then Andy Keogh three minutes before the break.

Scott Kerr began Albion`s comeback on 67 minutes and then Dominic Riordan equalised three minutes later, with Nick Matthews grabbing the winner on 77 minutes.

Clitheroe beat fourth-bottom Radcliffe Borough 2-1 at Shawbridge with goals from top scorer Sefton Gonzales after 10 minutes and Louis Mayers 20 minutes from time after Dominic Smith had levelled for Boro just after the break.

Farsley ensured bottom side New Mills remain win-less now after thirty-one games after a 4-1 away success. Lewis Nightingale after 12 minutes and an Aaron Hardy penalty after 23 minutes gave the visitors a 2-0 half-time lead that a Jonathan Rand own goal added to six minutes into the second half.

Adam Blackburn netted an 83rd minute consolation for the Millers, but Nightingale had the last word with a fourth in stoppage time.

Lancaster beat second-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic 3-1 at Station View, although it took 55 minutes to break down the struggling hosts when Billy Akrigg scored.

Tom Kilifin doubled the Dolly Blues` lead eight minutes from time, and after Lawrence Hunter had replied from the spot for Rail on 88 minutes, Ryan Winder did likewise for City in injury-time.

Droylsden ended an eleven-game run without a win by beating Brighouse Town by the odd goal in seven at the Butcher`s Arms.

Daniel Facey had Brighouse ahead after six minutes, but Dan Parkinson after 32 minutes, Will Hasler-Cregg on 40 minutes and a Tim Wallace own goal five minutes later saw the Bloods go into the break 3-1 up.

Martin Allison reduced the deficit eight minutes after the interval but a second for Hasler-Cregg stretched the home side`s lead to 4-2, which Facey reduced by one late on.

The day`s other game saw Bamber Bridge and Scarborough Athletic share a 0-0 draw at Irongate.
