Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

It's as you were in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division with all of the top three winning on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Blyth Spartans still lead the table by four points after beating mid-table Matlock Town 1-0 at Croft Park, Nathan Buddle scoring the winner on 63 minutes in front of a crowd of 567 at Croft Park.

It was a similar story for second-placed Darlington 1883, where 1,223 at Heritage Park saw a 54th minute Kevin Burgess effort prove enough to see off play-off chasing Rushall Olympic, who are now eight points adrift of the top five.

And 582 at Moor Lane saw Salford City remain in third, although they have played more games than all around them.

The Ammies saw off mid-table Sutton Coldfield Town 2-0 with goals from Danny Webber after 13 minutes and then Jamie Poole after 69 minutes.

Fourth-placed Workington AFC dropped two home points to sixth-placed Stourbridge.

A crowd of 510 at Borough Park saw Sean Geddes put the Glassboys ahead after 39 minutes. And they held lead that until five minutes into the second half when Joe McGee pulled the Reds back on level terms.

Despite the decent result, Stourbridge lost a top five spot to Ashton United, who won 1-0, courtesy of Martin Pilkington`s 49th minute effort, at Kirkby Road to another play-off contender in Barwell.

At the opposite end of the table, third-bottom Mickleoever Sports picked up three crucial points at home against bottom-markers Ramsbottom United to move to within two points of the safety-mark.

Jake Green gave the hosts a 28th minute lead that Alex Meaney eventually cancelled out just past the hour-mark. But Niall Thompson restored Sports` lead with 11 minutes to go and Nyambu Dinanga made sure with a third in the 87th minute.

Mid-table Grantham Town returned from second-bottom Colwyn Bay with all three points to leave the North Wales outfit eight points adrift of the fifth-bottom side.

Lee Shaw scored the winner for the Gingerbreads on 25 minutes when he broke free and rounded Bay's oncoming keeper to slot home.

Two other strugglers, Stamford AFC and Marine AFC, met at the Zeeco Arena and a crowd of 407 witnessed a nervy goalless draw which leaves the Daniels in fourth-bottom spot, just a point behind Whitby Town.

The Mariners are a place and a point in front of the Seasiders who won 1-0 at the Turnbull Ground against Buxton, an 88th minute Michael Roberts penalty all that separated the sides in the end.

Hyde United, who are still in need of points to avoid getting sucked into danger, had to settle for one at Ewen Fields against Skelmersdale United.

Both goals came within two minutes of each other – Chris Almond breaking the deadlock for Skem after 57 minutes and Sam Fitton quickly responding for the Tigers.

The only game with little other than pride and final placings riding on it saw Ilkeston FC go down to a 3-1 New Manor Ground defeat to visiting Halesowen Town.

Kaiman Anderson bagged a brace for the Yeltz after eight and 27 minutes before Ashley Parsons-Smith earned the visitors a three-goal lead with 34 minutes gone. Dexter Atkinson 'won' the second half for the Robins with the only goal 16 minutes from time.
