Seniors descending on Dynamo!

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Loughborough Dynamo are getting ready to host an end of season 'Walking Footall' tournament for sides of veterans from across the country.

The First Division South club announced on Monday that the Sporta National Walking Football Tournament is set to kick off at the Nanpantan Sports Ground on Sunday May 8.

Dynamo officials say the slower-paced version of the beautiful game aimed at the over 50s has really taken off since being introduced at start of the year and are urging local sides of six plus players to register or miss out with the tournament attracting nationwide interest.

Dynamo spokesman John Bryson said: “Since Walking Football was introduced here at Loughborough Dynamo at the start of the year, the sport has gained in strength and is becoming more popular all the time so we are very pleased to be asked to host this event. It is a nationwide tournament but hopefully we'll see plenty of local sides too."

Walking Football is not a new phenomenon and is designed to help people keep an active lifestyle and socialise despite their age, as well as getting those back playing football who've had to stop due to injuries. As the name suggests, Walking Football is non-contact and anyone who sprints, runs or jogs while the ball is in play is penalised.

Kicking off at 11am and running to 7pm, the entry fee of £40 per team covers team t-shirts, drinks, snacks, medals and trophies. A minimum of six players must be aged 50 and over with no more than two players aged 30 to 50 allowed per team.
