Brodie resigned following an approach from North West Counties League side Burscough FC, and he has accepted a role with them.
The club say he had previously pledged to remain at the club, despite their demotion to the North West Counties League.
In the statement, chairman Gordon Johnson said he understood the reasons behind Brodie’s departure.
“I fully understand his reasons for doing so as Skelmersdale United are in a state of transition,” he said.
“Even more so following the resignation of six directors who have been with the club for many years.
“Consequently, we have yet to be able to set a playing budget for the 2023-24 season, due to ongoing sponsorship negotiations, and also the ongoing dialogue we have with West Lancashire Borough Council and other interested parties in relation to relocating us back to Skelmersdale where we belong. This I know was a big factor in Richard’s decision to leave the club.”
As a result of the club’s relegation due to the ground not meeting standards, they will be playing their home games at Burscough.
Johnson also hoped to be able to name Brodie’s replacement in the next 10-14 days.
“I am amazed at the number of applications the club has already received for the vacant first-team manager position and would hope to make an appointment in the ten to fourteen days,” he added.
