Skipper heading back down under

Salford City skipper Chris Lynch is heading down under after helping the Ammies win promotion from the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League.

An ever present all season before an injury in the final game of the regular season ruled him out of the play-offs, Lynch is joining Murray United of the Australian National Premier League’s Victoria Two Division.

The 31-year-old signed on at Moor Lane during the summer of 2014 for former manager Phil Power, having previously been club captain at Ashton United. After kicking off his career with Wigan Athletic he first moved into Non-League with Altrincham and Hyde United before enjoying a previous spell in Australia playing with Sorrento.

Lynch famously hit back on social media last year after Salford City co-owner Paul Scholes claimed in newspaper article that he once had to leave the pitch early to go to work as a nurse, politely telling the United legend on Twitter that he was in fact a gas fitter by trade!

In total, Lynch made 54 appearances last term and scored seven goals before leaving this week after Salford City joint-manager Anthony Johnson paid tribute to their promotion winning skipper.

Johnson said: "Despite the bad luck of being injured for the play-offs Lynchy didn't feel sorry for himself - he was great in the dressing room and around the lads - real quality. He's the best captain I've ever worked with and his determination and attitude rubbed off on the other lads."
