Smith sees positives despite late equaliser

Hednesford Town boss Rob Smith was keen to point out the positives as his Pitmen side conceded a last minute equaliser at Frickley Athletic on Saturday.

The Keys Park outfit missed the opportunity to make up two points on promotion rivals Bradford Park Avenue and three on Marine and Chorley but the manager was keen to look on the bright side.

'The central two defenders were superb and didn’t deserve to concede. Frickley has proven to be a very difficult place to go and I thought we matched them which was pleasing, but we should have held on and got the three points.'

The dissappointment of Frickley's late goal was tempered by the fact The Pitmen now sit second in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division, four points clear of Marine who lurk just outside of the play-off places.

Hednesford face one of the longest journey's of the season to Whitby Town on Saturday but Smith and his assistant Larry Chambers have a busy week in front of them with a hastily arranged friendly away to Sutton Coldfield Town at Coles Lane on Tuesday night, 8pm KO, and the manager is also planning to take in two of his play off rivals in midweek fixtures.

'Im going to watch Stafford v Northwich on Tuesday and FC United v Matlock Town on Wednesday so Larry will assist in the friendly against Sutton Coldfield which will give us a chance to get Darren Campion, Jamie Osborne and some other of the lads, much needed game time. As for the long trip to Whitby, we will just need to give ourselves enough time to have a stop en route and, more importantly, arrive up there in plenty of time to have a good warm up.'

After Saturday's seaside clash at Whitby, Hednesford welcome Northwich Victoria to Keys Park for what is undoubtedly the biggest game of the season so far on Saturday March 10th 2012, KO 3pm.
