Solomon-Davies: "We can't wait for the next challenge"

Marine defender Josh Solomon-Davies says that his team can’t wait for the next challenge in their Emirates FA Cup journey.

The Pitching In Northern Premier League N/West outfit progressed to the second round for the first time in 28 years after defeating Football League Two’s Colchester United.

Neil Young’s side, who remain the last Northern Premier League team in the competition, will host Havant And Waterlooville in the second round, who feature in the National League South.

During their successful FA Cup journey so far, Marine have defeated Barnoldswick Town, Frickley Athletic, Runcorn Linnets, Nantwich Town, Chester and the 5-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Colchester.

Speaking of penalty shoot-out, Solomon-Davies said: “I was nervous of course, however if it was my turn to take one I was ready and confident. I had faith in the boys and knew we would take our chances but I was praying before each one hoping for it to go in.

“Celebrations speak loud enough for the achievement I believe. It was complete madness from the pitch to the brilliant journey back on the coach. I’m sure you've seen some videos. The lads were all buzzing and you can’t blame us really!”

“I backed the lads. We have a very good squad mixed with good experience and young lads striving for more, including myself. We are all hungry to prove different points and I think that togetherness showed throughout the entire game.”

It's the first time Marine have defeated football league opposition away from home in their history, and they will face Havant And Waterlooville on the weekend of November 28 in the second round.

“It's an amazing time for myself personally and the club and it just feels surreal and I think it will be like that for a while,” said Solomon-Davies, a St Lucia international.

“Anyone we get we will most probably be the underdogs, but we will thrive off that like we have done with the other games.

“We will have a plan and we will be confident in that plan and hopefully we can get another historic win and progress to the big boys as they say.

“It’s exciting times for the club and players and we can't wait for the next challenge and hopefully the tale isn't done yet.”
