Step 4 preview: 60 teams ready for action

By James Gordon

A new season is on the horizon this weekend, with 60 Step 4 Northern Premier League teams looking to climb the footballing pyramid.

In the East Division, Stockton Town will look to bounce back from suffering play-off final heartbreak when they welcome Worksop Town to the Map Group UK Stadium.

Meanwhile, beaten semi-finalists Cleethorpes Town host newly-promoted Consett AFC, while Shildon visit Grantham Town, who were relegated from the Premier Division last season.

Grimsby Borough, Long Eaton United and North Shields - all newcomers to the division - come up against Pontefract Collieries, Bridington Town and Lincoln United, the latter being the only one of the three sides kicking off the new season at home.

In the West Division, a new dawn will be ushered in at Witton Albion as Jon Macken’s recently-relegated side visit Newcastle Town.

Meanwhile, beaten play-off finalists Runcorn Linnets host local rivals Widnes FC.

Promoted trio Hanley Town, Macclesfield and Skelmersdale United face tough starts, with the former visiting Ramsbottom United. The Silkmen will face Clitheroe at home, with Skem taking on Trafford.

In the best of the Midlands Division action, Dereham Town and St Neots Town - both lateral movers to the division - will host newly-promoted Hinckley and last season’s beaten play-off finalists Chasetown respectively.

Aside from Hinckley, there will be three other sides on the climb from Step 5, in the shape of Boldmere St Michaels, Gresley Rovers and Harborough Town.

Boldmere St Michaels are the only one of the three to be on their travels on the opening weekend, away at Loughborough Dynamo. Carl Abbott’s Moatmen, meanwhile, will host Cambridge City, while the latter faces Halesowen Town, who secured a play-off spot last time around.

All matches will be played on Saturday 13 August.
