Strategic role for returning Williams

By David Watters

Gus Williams is relishing his return to Colwyn Bay as the new director of football at the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Seagulls.

Williams, pictured, agreed to step in as manager back in January when Frank Sinclair quit Llanelian Road with the club struggling in National League North. Following their relegation in May he stepped down but had kept in close contact with officials at the Premier Division club.

After helping the Premier Division club recruit former Marine boss Kevin Lynch and his assistant Peter Cumiskey in October as replacements for Ashley Hoskin, Williams, who works for the Wales Football Trust as a player development co-ordinator, told supporters that he was delighted to return to work with duo and the club's other coaches.

Williams said: "When the chairman and vice-chairman asked me to assist them with the appointment of a new manager I was immediately interested as it was an opportunity to repay the club for the support they provided me when I was here initially.

"This is a great club with great people in and around the place and therefore it is a pleasure to return in this capacity at such an exciting time for all."

He added: "I am here now to put in place a support mechanism which will assist Kevin in obtaining and attaining not only his personal objectives as a manager but also that of the club. I shall work between the board and Kevin, liaising with him on all football matters and reporting to the board on a regular basis."

Lynch said: "Gus knows Welsh football inside out and has contacts throughout the game, so he will be a tremendous help as we bid to take the club forward."

* James Graham, on loan at the Seagulls from Everton since last month, was called up by Wales this week for the UEFA U19 qualifying tournament taking place in Georgia. The 18-year-old defender was set to feature in fixtures against Georgia, Albania and Austria.
