Successor to late secretary named

Local businessman Ian Evans has been named as the new secretary at EVO-STIK Northern Premier Leek Town.

Until recently the secretary at North West Counties League outfit Hanley Town, Evans succeeds the late Brian Wain at the EVO-STIK NPL First Division South club following the sad passing of the former police inspector and lifelong supporter.

Pictured with son Andy Wain, the former Blues chairman, the grandfather died suddenly in February at the age of 71 while on holiday with his family. In a statement announcing the appointment of his successor, club officials also confirmed that Tim Lucy would be continuing in his role as matchday secretary at Harrison Park.

The Staffordshire club's officials are also looking forward to the one and only Barry Fry entertaining supporters at the end of the season after announcing details for their latest Sportsmen's Evening.

The Posh legend is set to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Jan Molby, Robbie Savage, Mickey Thomas, Jeff Winter and Bruce Grobbelaar on Thursday 27 April when he'll be lifting the lid on a career in the game spanning more than 40 years.

With tables of 8, 10 and 12 available and a pie 'n' peas supper included with tickets priced at £25, the Blues are warning fans that they are expecting to sell out fast.

A spokesman said: "Our last Sportsman's Evening featuring Bruce Grobbelaar sold out very quickly so we advise you to purchase tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment."
