Summer tournament will be epic

EVO-STIK League Whitby Town are getting ready to host another epic festival of football this summer.

The Seasiders are teaming up with Playmaker Promotions to bring the second annual Whitby Town Challenge Cup to the Yorkshire coast in the last week of July, with Sheffield United, Hull City and Middlesbrough all kicking off at the Turnbull Ground.

Last year’s inaugural tournament saw a young Newcastle United side comprehensively beat AZ Alkmaar in the final, with Glasgow Celtic finishing in third place after beating the EVO-STIK League Premier Division's hosts in the third-place play-off.

In an Easter statement announcing the news, club officials also confirmed that fans who purchase their season tickets before the tournament kicks off with Middlesbrough facing Sheffield United on Wednesday 25 July will also enjoy a free pass to all four games. The Seasiders take on Hull City 24 hours later before the third-place play-off at lunchtime on Saturday is followed by the final from 5pm.

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults, £6 for concessions and £3 for under 18s. Fans can also take advantage of a special early bird ticket covering all four fixtures priced at £20, £12 and £6 respectively. Youngsters accompanied by a paying adult will also be admitted for free.

A club spokesman said: "Whitby Town is delighted to be teaming up with Playmaker Promotions once again to present the Whitby Town Challenge Cup this July. The tournament has full FA approval and comes with the highly professional team at Playmaker Promotions presenting a weekend of top-flight football by the seaside."
