Supporters thanked for ending exile

EVO-STIK League Skelmerdale United have thanked their supporters and the local community for helping to end their exile.

Evicted from their former home at the Uretek Stadium in October 2017, Skem are in discussions with JMO Sports Park and their local council about relocating permanently to the site in Skelmersdale after hosting Welsh club Airbus UK Broughton there on Saturday.

Northern Premier League Warrington Town are next up on Tuesday night after a 2-1 win for Dave Powell's side and delighted officials at the EVO-STIK League West club are hoping to get the chance to upgrade the ground, pictured, after spending last season ground-sharing with Prescot Cables at Volair Park after a Marine offered them a temporary home.

Skelmersdale United director Paul Griffiths sent the club's thanks at the weekend in a statement appealing for supporters and the local community and businesses to continue supporting their survival.

He said: "Should we receive all the necessary relevant permissions and consents, work would commence to upgrade JMO Sports Park to enable it to accommodate the club. Skelmersdale United and the board of directors wish to place on record it’s sincere thanks for all the hard and time-consuming work done so far by JMO and Council officers in getting us this far.

"On a personal note I wish to thank my fellow directors, sponsors and fans for their hard work and support during what has and is a very difficult time. There is still much more to do, and the club is still in need of all manner of support, especially from the local business community. To help the club survive and move forward, please give us your help and support and we will attempt to do you proud."

The JMO Sports Park is a state-of-the-art football centre at the Blaguegate Playing Fields Site in Skelmersdale. Situated just off the M58 motorway and less than 10 miles from Liverpool, Wigan, and St Helens, the ground is easily accessible.

As well as a brand new clubhouse building with modern changing rooms, kids party room, conference facilities, fully licensed bar with multi-screen TVs showing live sports throughout the week and a function room, the ground boasts two full size 11-a-side pitches and nine fully enclosed training pitches made up of one 9-a-side pitch, three 7-a-side pitches and five 5-a-side pitches.
