Tadcaster snap up quartet

Tadcaster Albion have announced the signings of four players ahead of the 2022/23 NPL season.

Firstly, striker Brett Agnew joins the Brewers from Bridlington.

Agnew, 33, has most recently enjoyed a manager/player role at the Seasiders, a tenure which lasted over three years.

The Scottish striker played 128 times for Bridlington, scoring 73 goals.

Speaking to the club's website about his move to Tadcaster, Agnew said: "Leaving Bridlington was a tough decision but it meant a lot to me when John Deacey took the time to discuss a move to Tadcaster.

"I still have ambition to score more goals or help those around me to do so. I had approaches from several other clubs but having spoken to Curtis, Jake Day and Martin Foster, I decided this was an opportunity I could not miss."

Joining him at Ings Lane is dynamic defender Jack Johnson who has signed from Pickering Town.

Johnson, 23, has worked under John Deacey at Scarborough Athletic.

After three years at the Seadogs, Johnson signed for Pickering Town in 2020.

He was a key member of their squad despite the club's relegation from the NPL East Division last season. Johnson made 45 appearances and scored 6 goals for The Pikes.

On his move to the Brewers, Johnson stated: "I am excited to have signed for Tadcaster Albion.

"I fully understand what John Deacey wants to achieve this season and want to be part of those plans.

"I have played at Tadcaster a few times and have always enjoyed the atmosphere at the club."

Four years after leaving the club, Tadcaster welcome back former defender Josh Grant from Brighouse Town.

Grant, 30, previously played for the Brewers following their promotion from the NCEL Premier in 2015.

Like Jack Johnson, Grant links back up with John Deacey, with the pair spending time together at Farsley Celtic.

"John Deacey outlined his plan for the new season and offered me the opportunity to be part of it.", Grant explained.

He added, "I feel the Club is looking for promotion and it would be good to play under him again.

"I back John and Andy to get the best out of the team which I am sure will be successful. I also know a few of the lads at Tadcaster and it will be enjoyable to play with them.”

Deacey's final signing is central midfielder Cody Cromack.

Cromack, 24, makes the move north from Northern Premier League East Division rivals Worksop Town.

He has also played for Liversedge and Pontefract Collieries, playing a role in their back-to-back promotions to the Northern Premier League.

On his move, Cromack said: "I am happy to get this move over the line and cannot wait to get started."
