Thornton lands Bay's Player of the Month award

The Bowland Brewery Player of the Month awards for January have been handed out across the EVO-STIK League.

Colwyn Bay supporters have voted defender Darren Thornton as their Player of the Month for January and he received his award from assistant manager Neil Coverley.

Thornton put in some consistent performances during the month and helped extend Bay's unbeaten run to six games prior to the defeat at Chasetown.

That was his first defeat in a Bay shirt, having signed in December from Glossop North End. He made his Bay debut in the 3-1 win at Kendal Town and then scored with a header on his home debut against Market Drayton in the 4-2 win on Boxing Day.

He topped the poll for January's award with 70 per cent of the votes. Skipper Tom McCready was runner-up.
