Tributes to retiring former chairman

Bedworth United have paid tribute to former chairman Peter Randle after ill health forced him to relinquish his role as an executive board director at the EVO-STIK League's Greenbacks.

Officials at the EVO-STIK League South club issued a statement after current chairman Neill Rayson-Randle received written notification from his predecessor this week of his decision to step away his position on the board due to illness.

The Oval will still one of the key figures behind the rescue of the Warwickshire club in 1997 when it nearly folded still around on matchdays to assist where possible.

Randle, pictured, stood down as chairman in June in 2014 and ahead of a trip to Basford United on Saturday, the club said: "Everyone at the club recognises the work Peter has done for some 60 years, including the fantastic efforts of 1997 to steer the club through turbulent times that nearly saw Bedworth United fold.

"His tireless efforts have seen with others the club develop into a more stable position and stride forward in the community, a tremendous contribution is very much appreciated. Having given so much to Bedworth we offer our best wishes to Peter and our sincere thanks for his conscientious service."
