Tuesday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

There were only four matches in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North on Tuesday night but they produced a staggering thirty one goals between them, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

To see a 9-0 win at Step 4 level is rare – but to get two on the same evening in the same division is staggering!

Leaders Warrington Town bounced back from last Saturday’s loss at second-placed Northwich Victoria with a staggering victory at the Butcher`s Arms against struggling Droylsden. Skipper Ceiran Kilheeney and Chris Gahgan both netted hat-tricks with Ben Deegan, Ali Brown and Phil Dean scoring singles in the 9-0 rout.

Third-placed Spennymoor Town enjoyed their biggest win for several years when they hammered bottom and still win-less New Mills by the same scoreline.

Moors created several chances before they finally took the lead with a half volley by Mark Anderson on 23 minutes. That opened the floodgates as Liam Henderson and Joe Tait went on to bag braces with singles from Nathan Fisher, Glen Taylor, James Risbrough and Anthony Peacock.

The game at Parkside between lower mid-table sides Kendal Town and Prescot Cables eclipsed the two 9-0 victories by sharing a 5-5 draw!

The see-saw encounter produced just one goal in the opening 45 minutes when Nathan Bondswell gave the Mintcakes a sixth minute lead. Kendal stretched their lead to 3-0 with goals from San Bailey on 53 and 57 minutes and, after Anthony Shinks had reduced the deficit, Charlie Bailey sent Cables 4-1 down with just 25 minutes left.

But Joe Evans, Andy Scarisbrick and James Edgar pulled Cables back on level terms, only for Sam Bailey to complete his hat-trick to make it 5-4 with five minutes left. However, Lloyd Dean popped up with Cables` leveller in the last minute – phew!

Mid-table sides Bamber Bridge and Brighouse Town swapped positions in the table after a slightly more `normal` 3-0 win for Brig at Irongate.

Stuart Vasey gave the home side an early eighth minute lead that Matt Lawlor added to two minutes after the break. Chris Marlow made sure with a third nine minutes from the end.
