Tuesday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

Spennymoor Town and Burscough both boosted their play-off hopes in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Moors have a very healthy thirteen-point lead over the chasing pack after a comfortable 4-1 Brewery Field victory over Mossley AFC.

And they had to come back from being a 26th minute Tom Dean goal down to win, thanks to a Joe Tait brace on 30 and 58 minutes and goals from Mark Anderson after 72 minutes and Dave Dowson four minutes from time.

Burscough only have a one-point cushion over sixth-placed Clitheroe, who also won on Tuesday, after an amazing 5-3 success at Irongate against mid-table Bamber Bridge.

Curtis Thompson had Brig in front after just four minutes but two goals in two minutes midway through the half from Will Jones and Will Smart had the Linnets in front at the break.

Immediately after the restart, Ali Waddecar equalised, only for Jones to net his second six minutes later. Stuart Vasey pulled the hosts level again just past the hour-mark, only for a Michael Monaghan brace on 68 and 86 minutes to tip the verdict Burscough`s way.

Clitheroe moved into sixth after a 2-0 home win over Witton Albion.

David Lynch gave the Blues a 14th minute lead, but they weren`t safe until Michael Hampson finally added a second seven minutes from time.

Radcliffe Borough severely damaged Farsley Celtic`s top five hopes and improved their chances of avoiding the drop after a 3-1 Stainton Park win.

Lewis Nightingale gave the visitors a 48th minute lead that Matt Davies cancelled out on the hour-mark. Veteran striker Jody Banim then gave Boro the lead two minutes later, with a Sam McMahon penalty 15 minutes from time confirming victory and a ten-point lead from second-bottom Harrogate Railway.

Ossett Town are two points above Railway after being held to a 1-1 draw at Ingfield by Prescot Cables, whose Joe Herbert broke the deadlock after 79 minutes, only for David Brown to level five minutes later.
