Tuesday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

Spennymoor Town won 3-1 at Mossley on Tuesday night to keep the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North title out of Warrington Town`s hands, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

While Darlington were winning at their home on Tuesday night to top the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division table, Spennymoor`s superior goal difference is keeping their title interest alive.

Goals from Liam Henderson after two minutes, James Risborough on 37 minutes and Nathan Fisher in the last minute after Tom Pratt had reduced the arrears nine minutes earlier gave them victory at Seel Park.

Glossop North End may be some sixteen points behind Spennymoor but they are assured of a top five finish, despite being held to a 1-1 draw at Trafford, where Danny White`s 81st minute breakthrough was cancelled out just two minutes later by Chris Shuker.

They are assured a top five finish, barring a huge swing in goal difference, due to Clitheroe`s best-of-seven defeat at home to Brighouse Town.

On a day when their management team announced they were leaving at the end of the season, the Blues trailed to Daniel Facey`s 18th minute opener but then led through Louis Mayers after 27 minutes and Sefton Gonzales five minutes later, only for a Chris Lynch own goal just before the break to bring the scores level.

Ryan Hall restored Brighouse`s lead four minutes after the restart but Mayers levelled five minutes later, only for Facey`s second in the 66th minute to prove to be the winner.

Burscough moved five points clear of Clitheroe in fifth spot with a game in hand after sharing a 2-2 draw at Stainton Park against a now-safe Radcliffe Borough.

Karl Noon gave the Linnets a 20th minute lead that Sam McMahon cancelled out a minute before half-time. McMahon then put Boro in front eight minutes after the interval, only for Michael Monaghan to equalise less than a minute later.

New Mills made it thirty-eight games without a win after a 3-1 defeat at home to Lancaster City.

Terry Cummings gave the Dolly Blues an early second minute lead that Ryan Hopper levelled right on half-time from the penalty spot. Tom Watson restored City`s lead 10 minutes into the second half and Craig Carney added a third 10 minutes from the end.

Ossett Town are almost safe after Danny Frost`s 63rd minute effort sealed a 1-0 win at Irongate against Bamber Bridge to take them eight points clear of second-bottom Harrogate Railway, who can only obtain nine points if they win their remaining games.

Farsley Celtic won 4-0 at the Butcher`s Arms in Tuesday`s other game.

It was goalless at the break and then two goals in three minutes shortly after the interval from James Knowles and Lewis Nightingale put Celtic in command, Paddy Miller and Nightingale adding to the tally in the final nine minutes.
