Tuesday's First Division South action review

By David Watters

Shaw Lane Aquaforce earned a nervy best-of-five home win over already-relegated Tividale to move to within three points of EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division South leaders Stafford Rangers with one game left, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Shaw Lane possess a six-goal advantage on Rangers, meaning that Stafford need a point on the final day of the season when they travel to third-placed Coalville Town to claim the title - Shaw Lane are also away to Rugby Town.

A loss and a win for Shaw Lane, whose James Walshaw bagged a brace, including a last-minute winner on Tuesday night, will give the title to the Barnsley outfit.

They came back from being a 34th minute Chris Sterling goal down to win too, with Matt Thornhill equalising and then, after Sterling`s second on 76 minutes, Walshaw`s late brace.

Lincoln United claimed the final top five spot after they beat Rugby 3-1 at Ashby Avenue and Chasetown were beaten 1-0 at home by Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Mitch Piggon gave Valley a 17th minute lead that Jake Gibson levelled after 32 minutes. Just 5 minutes later, United were in front through Matt Cotton, with Danny Brooks` 62nd minute penalty confirming victory.

Then news came through that Scott Ruthven`s 88th minute goal for Steels meant the Scholars couldn`t catch Lincoln.

Belper Town hit beleaguered Daventry Town for six at Communications Park.

It was 4-0 at half-time, courtesy of an Alex Steadman brace and Bradley Wells and Rob Stevenson singles. Wells scored his second just past the hour-mark and then Steadman completed his hat-trick 11 minutes from time.

Six goals at Daventry, but none at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds where Goole AFC and Leek Town shared a goalless draw.

And only one at Market Drayton Town, where Paul McMullen`s 70th minute winner against Sheffield FC means the Shropshire side have a chance to finish in the top ten.
