Tuesday's First Division South action review

By David Watters

The top two in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South both won again on Tuesday night so Shaw Lane AFC remain nine points clear of Witton Albion, who still possess two games in hand, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Shaw Lane comfortably saw off second-bottom Loughborough Dynamo 4-0 at home, thanks to Alex Byrne after four minutes, Gary Burnett seven minutes later, Ryan Qualter in the 25th minute and Byrne again just before the half-hour mark.

Although the Barnsley side threatened to run riot, they took their foot off the gas for the remainder of the game as Dynamo improved without managing to trouble the scorers.

Witton had a much tougher assignment at top five chasing Leek Town at Harrison Park.

The home side were looking to move to within a point of the play-off places but fell behind to a 17th minute Steven Tames effort. Darren Chadwick levelled from the spot after 38 minutes, but a minute before the break, Will Jones restored a Witton lead they never relinquished.

Newcastle Town are up into fourth spot after they beat Romulus 2-1 at the Lyme Valley Stadium.

After Ricky Hill gave the Roms an early fourth minute lead, Lee Cropper proved to be Castle`s hero with a brace in the 56th and 71st minutes.

Lincoln United maintained their outside challenge for a top five finish after winning 3-0 at Bracken Moor against Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Josh Nichol gave the visitors a 23rd minute lead that Conner Robinson doubled 10 minutes later, with Kallum Smith adding a third with six minutes of the first half remaining.

Sad to see Northwich Victoria propping up the table, and they look virtually doomed after a 4-0 defeat at the Zeeco Stadium against Stamford AFC.

Jack Duffy after 16 minutes and Elliot Sandy on 26 minutes gave the Daniels a two-goal interval cushion. Delroy Gordon five minutes after the break and Grant Ryan 17 minutes from time, rounded off a good home win to leave Vics seven points adrift of the safety-mark.
