Two from two the target for Smith

Hednesford Town update, by Chris Brewerton

Hednesford Town boss, Rob Smith, has targeted two wins from his sides’ next two league games as his Pitmen team look to recover their form after an enforced lay off due to the Winter cold snap.

Keys Park was gripped by frost which caused their top of the table clash with Northwich to be called off last Tuesday and their planned game versus Burscough fell victim to the snow and ice, just like every other game in the Evo Stik Northern Premier Division, on Saturday.

Smith would rather have played immediately following two defeats against Marine and FC United of Manchester and is mindful of the threat North Ferriby will pose despite their mid-table position in the league.

‘We would have preferred to play straight after the FC United game to get back to winning ways but we have trained throughout the bad weather and it has been nice to get some time on the training pitch after so many games. Anyone can beat anyone in this league and North Ferriby will be a tough test, especially with the likes of Gary Bradshaw and Wayne Brooksby in their squad.’

The Pitmen will cement their place in the play-off picture with victory on Saturday and will still hold feint hopes of a late title charge if they pick up maximum points on Saturday and the following weekend at home to Marine.

Smith is obviously wary of looking too far in the future, but, as he has stressed all season, his squad have the strength of character and, more importantly the quality, to sustain a promotion challenge.

‘I am fully confident that my squad will be involved in the promotion shake up at the end of the season. We have the ability to beat any side on our day and, with the signing of Jermaine Johnson to bolster our defence, I have every faith in my players.’

Saturday’s game is scheduled for 3pm, £9 Adults £5 concessions (Terrace) and £10 Adults £6 concessions (Main Stand), Adult and Child Terrace Ticket £10. Supporters are advised to keep up with developments if the weather fails to improve on Saturday morning by visiting the new website www.hednesfordtownfc.com for updates on any planned pitch inspection.

Hednesford Town Supporters Association have announced that, following a re-working of the costs for the Middlesbrough FA Cup Commemoration evening on Saturday 18th February, admission to the night has been cut to £10 for SA members and £12 for non-SA members.

Joint-Chairman Mark Goodwin, stated how happy he was to pass on the cost saving to the supporters in preparation for what will prove to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening for fans, ex-players and former staff who are planning to attend.

‘After we submitted the costing for the evening it became clear we were in a position to pass the saving of £2 per ticket onto the supporters for entrance to the evening and the hot pork buffet. All the hard work behind the scenes is starting to come together and we are confident of seeing the Chase Suite full with supporter’s young and old, to join in with the celebrations.’

Meanwhile, the Club are also inviting youngsters around the area to get involved with a soccer school week at Keys Park during February half-term. Prices for the week are £40 Mon-Fri or £10 per day (10am-4pm).

Michael McMahon, organiser of the event, is keen to re-engage local school children with the Club and see children receive some expert tuition from University graduates and qualified coaches.

‘The Soccer School Week plans to give the children of Hednesford and Cannock an enjoyable and informative week of football on the pitch at Keys Park and encourage all those who attend to stay fit and healthy during half-term.’

Any parents interested in enrolling their children onto the course should call Michael McMahon direct on 07881 458827 or call 01543 422870 to book their place for the week which begins on Monday February 13th.

Those supporters interested in purchasing reduced price tickets for the Middlesbrough evening should contact Chris Brewerton on 07919912811, email chrisbrewerton@hotmail.co.uk or visit Keys Park during the home games versus North Ferriby this Saturday, Stoke City on Tuesday 14th February or Marine on Saturday February 18th. Fans who have already purchased their tickets at the previous prices will be contacted and reimbursed in due course.

HTFCSA’s monthly meeting will take place at the Club at 7.30pm on Thursday 9th February and, as always, members and supporters are encouraged to attend and discuss what the SA have planned for the next few months.
