Two more stay with Pikes

Pickering Town have confirmed that Matty Turnbull and Iwan Heeley have committed to the club for the 2020/21 season.

Defender Turnbull has played for the club at every age level from nine upwards, and has made more than 165 appearances since making his first team debut in 2012.

In fact, the only time away in 17 years has been a spell playing cricket in Australia and a season at Scarborough Athletic.

Manager Steve Roberts told the club’s official website: “It is great news that Matty has committed to us for the coming season. He is one of the players who i really wanted to retain, not only is Matty a very strong defender, but he can also be a threat from set pieces in the attacking third.”

“He has the club at heart and I want people like him at the club to help move the club forward in the next few seasons.

Midfielder Heeley arrived from Brighouse Town in Nov ember, and scored five goals in 17 appearances.

He previously played for Pontefract, AFC Emley and Hemsworth.

Roberts added: “Iwan is a great lad to have at the club. To get his commitment for next season is fantastic news.

“He can play a number of positions and his understanding of the game is brilliant . But I feel his strength is in central midfield and he has a great strike on him, which he showed last season. He is a very good player to have at Pickering.”
