Vics officials went ahead with the meeting at the Lostock Community Centre in Northwich after the club legend, pictured, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning aged 89.
"This is what Derek would have wanted," said a spokesman following the death of the stalwart who'd been in his "usual high spirits" the night before when he attended the club's 1-0 reverse at Leek Town in EVO-STIK NPL First Division South.
"This has come as a massive shock to Derek's immediate family, us all here at the club and the wider Non-League football community the length and breadth of the country where Derek was hugely respected."
Mr Nuttall had been a Vics fan since seeing his first game at their old Drill Field home at the age of eight. In the intervening decades, he went on to serve the club with great distinction as a board member, secretary and chairman as well as holding numerous other roles. He had continued to play a part in the day-to-day running of his beloved club until his untimely death.
Since announcing his passing, the Vics have been flooded with messages of condolences on social media with many fans and clubs paying tribute to a "true gentleman and club legend."
