Volunteers are stars of new video

EVO-STIK League play-off winners Ashton United are backing the Football Association's bid to help clubs recruit more volunteers with a promotional video hailing their vital contribution to the game.

With more than 400,000 volunteers already estimated to be the lifeblood at 37,000 clubs and the FA currently leading a fresh drive to bring even more into the game, the Robins have released a slick video highlighting the vital work they do at Hurst Cross.

Produced by second year sports journalism student Josh McAllister for the sports broadcasting module assignment element of his course, the video covering the work of Ashton United in the Community features interviews with a number of volunteers, vice-chairman Steve Hobson and the National League North-bound club's manager Jody Banim.

Banim, who guided the 140 year-old Robins to the runners-up spot in the EVO-STIK League Premier Division before beating Grantham Town to promotion in May's top flight play-off final, is proud of the club's growing partnership with Ashton United in the Community, their registered charity supporting community engagement and volunteering opportunities for local people.

Banim tells viewers: "They are the lifeblood of the club and we would't have one club without them. Right through the club, from the chairman and the secretary down, everyone is a volunteer and we wouldn't have the infrastructure without them to function."
