Waite signs two-year deal

17-year old agrees terms with Ilkeston

Tyrell Waite, Ilkeston FC’s much sought-after striker, today signed a new two-year deal with the Evo-Stik First Division South club.

Seventeen-year-old Waite is a product of the New Manor Ground Academy and seems destined for an exciting career after attracting interest from numerous clubs this season, including Nottingham Forest, Birmingham City, Burnley and Reading.

But Robins’ boss Kevin Wilson has convinced him that his best course of action at this stage is to continue learning his trade with Ilkeston FC.

He explained: “We’re absolutely delighted that Tyrell has signed because he stands for everything we are trying to do at this club. He has improved out of all recognition since he joined our Academy last year and is a real talent.

“I would love to think that he is the long-term future of Ilkeston FC but to be honest, I don’t see any way that he will still be with us when his contract is due to expire. That’s fine and we won’t stand in his way when the time comes, but at this stage it’s best for him - and the club - to continue learning his trade with us.”

Derbyshire-born, Waite had spells with Chesterfield and Mickleover Sports before arriving at the New Manor Ground and cast his name into the record books in August when he scored Ilkeston FC’s first-ever League goal.

He said: “Obviously I’m ambitious and I want to go as far as I can in the game but until the right offer comes along, I’m happy to stay with Ilkeston FC.

“I know that I still have a lot to learn but Kevin Wilson has been a tremendous help to me and I enjoy it here. It’s a really good set-up - especially for a non-league club - and at this moment in time, it’s right for me to sign the new deal.”
