Walwyn joins Magpies

Former AFC Fylde, Skelmersdale United striker joins Chorley.

Chorley manager Garry Flitcroft has shaken up his squad, adding one new face and releasing three others.

Garry has completed the signing of exciting left winger Matt Walwyn, who joins the club from Skelmersdale United.

But Lee McEvilly, Chris Haworth and Nathan Fairhurst have all moved on.

Garry said: “I’d like to thank Macca, Chris and Nathan for their contributions during their time with us.

“Chris and Nathan were both part of our promotion success last season and they never let me down when they were called upon.

“Unfortunately both have struggled to pin down regular places in the side this season, largely because of the form of others in the squad.

“For that reason I’ve decided to let them go.

“Macca has also done well for us since joining the club in the summer but with Fozzie now fit again after a hamstring injury, I couldn’t guarantee him a regular starting place.

“I’d like to thank them all for their efforts and I wish them the very best for the future.”

Meanwhile, new signing Walwyn trained with his new team-mates for the first time this evening and looks set to go straight into the squad for Saturday’s home game against Ashton United.

The 20-year-old shot to fame when he scored twice at Wembley – aged just 17 – to help Kirkham & Wesham lift the FA Vase in 2008.

After leaving the club now known as AFC Fylde when his contract ran out at the end of last season, Walwyn had a brief spell on trial with Southport, before signing for Skelmersdale, where he scored 11 goals in just 7 games prior to his move to Victory Park.

Garry said: “Matt’s got a decent scoring record and I think he will give us something different.

“The Southport manager Liam Watson gave him a glowing recommendation and he certainly made his mark at Skem so I’m looking forward to seeing how he adapts to this level.”
