Appointed this week as the successor to Hawley at Dimple Wells after stepping up from his previous role as his number two, Welsh dipped into the transfer market for the first time on Wednesday to snap up former Bolton Wanderers, Farsley, Guiseley, Hyde and Warrington Town defender Alex McQuade, pictured.
After adding the 25-year-old to his squad for the visit of Tadcaster Albion in EVO-STIK League North on Saturday, Welsh tweeted: "Wow what a whirlwind few days!!! I am delighted to have been appointed first team manager @OssettAlbion. Great first session with the lads last night and raring to go for Saturday. #UpTheAlbion."
Former FC United of Manchester and Farsley Celtic midfielder Welsh also turned out for Blackpool, Carlisle United, Stockport County, Scunthorpe United, Sunderland, Toronto and Yeovil Town and was named on Monday as the successor to Hawley at the second from bottom Unicorns.
McQuade, who played in Australia for a couple of seasons with State League 1 side Banyule City, left the Reebok in 2013 without managing to break into the Trotters first-team to sign for Shrewsbury Town. After making his Football League debut against MK Dons, he was loaned out to then Conference side Hyde United in February 2014 and stayed for the remainder of the 2013-14 season before being released by the Shrews.
After a trial spell with Wrexham, McQuade signed for Guiseley AFC and then had short stays back at Hyde and with Farsley before signing for Warrington Town in July 2015. He moved 'down under' in February 2016.
