To celebrate 13 years of loyal service and nearly 500 games for the world's oldest football club, the testimonial for the 34-year-old midfielder, pictured, is kicking off at the EVO-STIK League East club's Coach and Horses ground at Dronfield at 7.30pm next Tuesday night (September 4).
With the international break and no game for two weeks, Wilder, who handed out the honours at the 2018 Northern Premier League Player of the Year Awards in April and is a good friend of Roney, has promised to send a strong Blades squad. Roney has also invited a number of special guests, including some well known ex-United players, past Sheffield team-mates and two very famous Sheffielders to be involved in the game.
Released by then Premier League Sheffield Wednesday and his boyhood club Sheffield United as a teenager, Roney went on to play for Hull City briefly before arriving at Sheffield FC in 2006 as a fresh-faced 22-year-old after spells at Hallam and Buxton.
Sheffield FC secretary Bill Towning said: "This will give us the opportunity to thank Matthew for his service and loyalty to Sheffield FC. We are hoping for a full house at the home of football in good support for Matt and his chosen charity, which is Macmillan Cancer, so we hope to raise plenty on the night."
Tickets on the night at the turnstiles at the BT Local Business Stadium are priced at £8 adults and £4 concessions. For more information visit www.sheffieldfc.com.
